Ski Season FAQs

Becoming a Ski Resort Crew Member

We guide you through every step of the process:

  • It all begins with completing a “Do I qualify?” form.
  • If you’re eligible, we’ll send you all the information you need to make an informed decision.
  • From there, you’ll complete your application and have the opportunity to book an interview with our experience coordinator.
  • Once accepted, we’ll support and assist you through the hiring process, followed by all visa requirements and pre-departure preparations.

You’ll never feel like you're navigating the journey alone.

If you answer yes to all the questions below, you’re eligible.

  • Are you a university student, enrolled during the current academic year (UNISA not applicable)?
  • Are you between 21-26 years old?
  • Do you have hospitality, retail or front desk experience?

Finding a Hiring Company

  • We’ll assist you with writing the perfect CV.
  • Next, you’ll be set up with a company looking for someone with your skill set and experience.
  • After the position is offered, you’ll sign a work agreement, and jet off to the slopes.

The Ski Resort Experience

The programme runs for 4 months – it starts at the beginning of December and ends at the end of March.

Our main destination is Aspen, but we also place crew in Vail, Telluride, Breckenridge, and the Catskills.

Yes, you’ll have time off to ski, explore the charming towns, and meet some new people. The amount of time will depend on your work schedule.

Of course! You may enter the US 30 days before your work period begins and you can stay in the US 30 days after the last day of your work period ends. That should be plenty of time to string in a couple of adventures in the USA.

Let's Talk Money

You’ll earn around $800 a week. You’re welcome to get a second (and if you’re feeling ambitious, a third) job to make more money.

Federal tax is automatically deducted from your payments. State tax is only deducted according to your state regulations.

Yes! You’ll need to visit your nearest Social Security office to apply, and you’ll get your Social Security card around two weeks later. You have to have one in order to open a US bank account, get paid, and file your tax returns.

You can file for your tax returns before April of the following year. Since this is an exchange programme, you’re eligible to get tax money paid back. You can do this independently or with a company like Sprintax.

Hopscotch vs Other Agencies

Hopscotch supports you through the full process, from application to placement. We connect you with vetted employers, assist with your CV and visa, and provide ongoing support throughout your programme. You’ll also have access to info sessions, training, and onboarding, so you know exactly what to expect at every stage. Less surprises, more fun.
